National Drinking Water Week
PWC joins communities across North America in celebrating Drinking Water Week May 5-11, an annual observance led by the American Water Works Association. The observance serves to highlight the importance of safe drinking water and recognize the tireless efforts of local water professionals who ensure its availability.
Clean, safe water is truly essential in our lives and PWC demonstrates its commitment to protecting our precious water supply daily. Drinking Water Week recognizes and honors the critical work that our water professionals accomplish around the clock to deliver quality tap water while bolstering resilience for water in the future. We annually provide our Water Quality Report to show customers our testing results that meets or surpasses standards and expectations for the highest quality drinking water.
PWC is constantly working “behind the scenes” to deliver over 10 million gallons a year of clean, safe water to more than 225,000 customers in the greater Fayetteville area. We have two treatment facilities – P.O. Hoffer Water Treatment Facility & Glenville Lake Water Treatment Facility – which have won numerous awards for innovation and exceptional performance, plus nearly 1,400 miles of underground piping and other state-of-the-art equipment that we maintain – all by a skilled and dedicated workforce who make it happen every day.
Partnership for Safe Water Director’s Award
PWC has been recognized by the Partnership for Safe Water with their Director’s Award for the last 24 years. We are proud to be a charter member of the Partnership, which was developed jointly by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, American Water Works Association, utilities, and other water organizations.
In 2000, PWC became the first utility in North Carolina to be recognized with the Director’s Award for our efforts and proven ability to treat water in a manner which exceeds current regulatory practices. Since earning the award in 2000, PWC continues to maintain this distinction through its exemplary practices. PWC has maintained the Director’s Award every year, an honor achieved by less than 200 water utilities across the country.
This year’s celebration also coincides with a historic milestone – the 50th anniversary of the Safe Drinking Water Act (SDWA), a landmark law designed to safeguard the public by setting high drinking water quality standards. The SDWA provides a scientific framework to identify potential risks to drinking water and address them in partnership with states and water utilities.
